It always takes me a few days to process a race. If I feel good at the end of a race…. I’ll feel better a few days later. If I feel lousy at the end of a race… I’ll still feel better a few days later. In other words… I have to let the dust settle.
Whoever said it was a Half Ironman at the Harryman… they were lying. It was 1.2 mile swim (water delightful), 3 x 21 mile bike loop = 63 miles of freakin’ hills, and 13.1 mile run of some freakin’ hills.
Ladies and gentlemen… mark my words… stay ahead of your nutrition (what is she talking about??? Not to worry… we will teach you) Even at this stage of “my game” I’m still learning. I thought I would blow the whole race on the second bike loop when I became quite fatigued. At that point I dug down deep into my Bento Box and ate and drank and ate and drank some more. Ahhh! Relief came after about 20-30 min. Then I settled into a closely watched time schedule of eating and drinking and….guess what???? Got off the bike and had a great run!
I had to keep in mind this was a “training” race for me so I kept it slow and steady right to the finish line feeling strong… then up to the podium for 1st Place in my division.
Can’t wait to see all of you at your finish lines.
Thanks for all your support. Joanne
